Karma and the Cosmic Forces of Justice

There are many different definitions of Karma, but the one that best fits this article is, “The sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences. It is perceived as a sort of cosmic justice. In other words Karma rights the wrongs that a person is responsible for. Now I realize that many of the readers of this essay may not believe in the concept of Karma. But for the purposes of this article allow me the opportunity to discuss the actions of two international leaders, Vladamir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu and his war cabinet from the perspective that Karma is a reality in all our lives.

Obviously there is no way to assess these two men’s existence in former lives if re-incarnation is a real thing. But their existences in this life drips of bad Karma. I would suggest Netanyahu is by far the worst. However, Putin is responsible for the bludgeoning of a people and the destruction of their towns due to an invasion of a peaceful loving Ukraine. He has killed over 13,134 civilians as of April 30, 2025, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Putin has shown no signs of ending the war and the slaughter.

In the case of Netanyahu and his war cabinet, the balance between the good and bad is overwhelmingly skewed toward the latter. Since October 2023, when they declared war on Hamas they are responsible for the slaughter of over 50,000 Palestinian men, women and children. The number of children has exceeded 16,000. The Gaza Strip has been reduced to rubble, including hospitals housing the sick. With all of the food supplies destroyed and with Netanyahu refusing to allow aid trucks with food and hospital supplies into the Strip, starvation has set in and many experts claim this is a case of genocide. Johnathan Whitall, Acting Director of the United Nation Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs described the situation as a “war without limits.” He further writes what is happening there as “an endless loop of blood, pain, and death…and a death trip.”

The reader might ask how does that affect this country. It was the South African social rights activists and Anglican Bishop Desmond Tutu who wrote, “If you don’t speak out against injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” The idea that remaining silent while innocent people are being slaughtered in both Gaza Strip and Ukraine makes all of us complicit. In the case of Israel our involvement goes much deeper because we provide that country with the weapons of mass destruction that are causing the horrendous tragedy over there.
